The Natural Way of Things by Charlotte Wood
5.0

Wow. What a book. Cuts right to your core; I had to stifle a sudden sob less than thirty pages in lest alarm my fellow morning commuters. Harrowing and deeply moving, The Natural Way of Things is a story that lingers. It makes you feel uncomfortable and horrified and desperate for the survival of these women. The modern Australian setting makes it all the more awfully tangible. I was particularly gripped by Wood's portrait of the remote Australian landscape, and the persistent role this plays in the girls' fate.
