Happily Never After
by Lynn Painter
Sad to say I didn’t enjoy this one that much. It lacked something I can’t really explain, but I was pretty much bored. It’s not the book, it’s me? Probably. I enjoyed the secondary characters much more than the main ones – Larry and Rose were absolutely iconic. But the rest didn’t stuck with me at all. And I can’t believe I’m gonna say this, but honestly it felt like the only connection they truly had was sexual and I was reading and thinking “oh, here we go again, I guess”. I’m a fan of sex scenes in rom coms as much as the next person, but I think it kinda makes the plot feel a lot more shallow in this book. At some point, they almost didn’t do anything wedding related – which was the whole premise behind the story, so? I will admit they had great chemistry, but not much more to add. I laughed with the Hunger Games references, with the redneck wedding. Either way, you know I will be reading whatever comes from Lynn, so I’ll be seated for the next one.
“I still thought love was for suckers and relationships were an outlandish rush too treacherous to be worth anything at the reward, but in spite of that, she was all I could think about.”
