I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy

challenging emotional hopeful reflective fast-paced

Holy shit this book was amazing! So well written but also heartbreaking. Like damn, her childhood made me angry and really sad for everyone involved. I hate that she had to deal with so much as a kid but loved seeing the growth and change she’s gone through during her recovery.

I think this is an important book in terms of family dynamics, child stars, eating disorders, and so much more. The level of family distinction really highlights that family has to earn trust, love, and respect…it shouldn’t freely be given just because they’re family. Nope, family members can be just as toxic as non family members and it’s important to recognize that.

Stylistically I liked how the book was split into before and after her mom died. The chapters were short which made the book feel quick and I really just love short chapters. The audio is read by the author which is always great. All around great book and would recommend!
