What a stunning, beautiful, and heart-wrenching novel! My heart is always heavy when reading novels set in World War II and after reading multiple throughout my junior high and high school days, I have mostly veered away from them. Seeing that the novel was being turned into a new show made me curious to pick this one up and try. I have not been disappointed. Following the story of the Kurcs across the WWII era has been incredible. It has been brought to life in such a vivid way that I feel as though I am taking the journey with each member of the family. Based upon the real life stories of the author’s own family, it is inevitable to feel so much emotion as the book draws to a close. It feels so timely as well reading this alongside the many other wars and tragedies occurring in the world currently. If you are looking for your next read, this novel should be moved to the top.
