Even Though I Knew the End by C.L. Polk

5.0

God, I LOVED this, 4.5 rounding up. Noir-anything will forever be one of my favorite genres, and the writing captures that smokey, dimly-lit, fedora-pulled-low speakeasy bar vibe perfectly. It’s short and sweet and the pacing rips, and then you pair the killer writing with a supernatural angels-versus-demons murder mystery? C’mon, I was hooked *immediately*.

It’s not perfect; several of supporting characters aren’t as fleshed-out as the protagonist, but I think that’s a function solely of length, and I would’ve loved this to have been a novel anyway simply because I loved this world so much.

What a great first read of the year!
