The Winter of the Witch by Katherine Arden

2.0

Trigger warnings: attempted murder, attempted murder by fire, murder, death of an animal, violence, beating by a mob, unwanted physical affection, PTSD, torture, whippings to the back, death of a loved one

OKAY, so I had a MUCH better time with this one than I did with the 2nd book. One of my favorite parts of this one was I loved the presence of the chyerti and just how much more prominent they were for the overall plot. I feel like we learned much more about them and the other ”beings” that we also met. I really liked THAT part of the whole story. I overall did not care for the political plot line of this story that began in the second one, and I absolutely hated being in Sasha’s, Olga’s, or Konstantin’s. Again, I was only here for Vasilisa, Morozko, and Solovey. But just the overall plot(s) I did not care for, and there were many scenes/events that I felt were unnecessary.

And can we talk about the romance? I love when a good slow-burn comes to a head and all of the longing and pining is no longer there? And they realize just how deep the bond is between the two? Chef's kiss
