The Innocent Man by John Grisham
4.0

"If I wrote The Innocent Man as a novel, folks probably wouldn’t believe it" -John Grisham

The first non- fiction by John Grisham tells the heartbreaking story of men who were wrongly convicted for crimes they did not commit.

I first found out about this book from a docuseries by Netflix.

Back then, forensic technology was not as great as today. Hair evidence was evaluated microscopically instead of extracting the DNA and compared it with suspects samples. Junk science, bad police work, incompetent lawyers and snitches are the reasons for faulty conviction on this case. Awareness for mental illness issues was also not as it is today. Ron Williamson sufferred various mental illnesses. The town immediately judged him as the murderer, the police targeted him because of his outburts. It's heartbreaking to read what he went through in prison for a crime he did not commit. His own health declined years after years in prison.

When they were proven innocent in both docuseries and the book, I cried a lot. Finally. It was as if Ron and Dennis's sufferings were my mine. It was also as if they were great friend of mine. Ron went to a better place now, he's finally at peace. He dreamed of eternal peace because he suffered so much on this world. "I wish that at the time of my death that I could go to sleep and never wake up and never have a bad dream... I don't want to go through the Judgement. I don't want anybody judging me again."
