The protagonist of this novel is a square who inhabits a 2-D world. We get to know what the different laws of the land are, and how the patriarchy of society is arranged. There are several diagrams interspersed with the text throughout to help us get a grasp of what the square is talking about, though the text is sufficiently simple and delightful. The story deals with what happens when the aforementioned square is exposed to other dimensions/worlds and how it deals with this new-found knowledge. It has to be said that the author has quite a creative brain in conceiving such a novel which if analyzed can reflect modern society and its thinking- how limited we are in our thoughts and how we still cling onto beliefs and religion that are ancient!
