Sharks in the Time of Saviors by Kawai Strong Washburn

5.0

I think this book is so highly slept on. The characters are ridiculously well fleshed out and all have VERY distinct voices, which I think is so difficult to do sometimes. Noa, Dean, and Kaui portray sibling relationships in such a realistic and heartfelt way, and the parents are so tangible as well. It's a very character driven novel, which is mostly my preference, but the plot behind it was also intriguing to follow. I LOVED the magical realism at the core of the novel and the connection to the gods, the land, and spirituality. Truly a beautiful book.
