The usual tone of the series is deceptively lighthearted, but the world and customs are definitely dark. This volume has one of the more controversial moments in the entire series (that I know of), which serves as a reminder of how messed up the world these characters live in really is, and how many traumatic events the main characters have each lived through. I think putting the previous volumes and each of their personal histories in that context helps to explain (not justify) some of the events in this volume; at least to the degree that I somewhat understand why things might have happened. I would recommend trying to do that if this volume throws you out as much as it did for me.
Moderate: Sexual assault
