I cried so hard reading this book. The community that the main characters found in spite of every attempt by the white oppressors around them to keep them apart was heartwarming. The things they had to go through were tragic. I thought the cop might have been a bit too cruel. He came off like a caricature of evil. But people can do unspeakable things when they think they're in the right. Could not recommend this book enough but keep tissues nearby.
