Pain by Jane Washington, Jaymin Eve
3.0
This was a fun series. I liked the characters and the world, but overall I wasn’t really as invested as I wanted to be on reflection. The Abcurse brothers definitely felt the most real, so that was where I was the most invested (along with every other reader I’m sure lol). Because of this, the first couple of books were my favorites. The god, sol, dweller conflict/dynamic was interesting but I was pretty go with the flow on it all. It never felt super real. I did wish the stakes were slightly higher. No one really ever dies or is harmed for the worse, except Atti I guess. Emmy is fine, their mom is fine, the god children are fine, Pica is fine, Evie is fine—everyone is fine. I love a happily ever after, but in a battle between gods and worlds, it seems very improbable. I got [b:Darkfever|112750|Darkfever (Fever, #1)|Karen Marie Moning|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1392579949l/112750._SY75_.jpg|108558] ‘lite’ from this series for some reason. They’re not even that similar.
Overall though, I liked the series and this last book is a star below just because it’s a little less character focused and more ‘save the world’ focused, except saving the world never truly felt like a live or die situation.
