Ant-Man: Second-Chance Man by Nick Spencer

5.0

Ant-Man was a character I was not familiar with before the films, save for minor appearances made by the Ant-Men (Hank Pym, Eric O'Grady, and, my personal favorite, Scott Lang). But the Marvel Cinematic Universe got me into comics, and, despite my wariness, I saw the Ant-Man film. And I loved it. It was fun, witty, gorgeous, and Paul Rudd killed it. And suddenly, I was an Ant-Man fan. This, being my first Ant-Man comic, did not disappoint. If you enjoyed the film, you will enjoy this. In fact, you might even enjoy the film more. There were so many times reading this that I could hear Paul Rudd's voice while reading the character of Scott Lang. This entire comic is fantastic. Without giving any spoilers, one of my favorite aspects of the comic is that you get a huge amount of references and appearances from both major and minor Marvel characters. The last comic I read was "Silver Surfer: Rebirth of Thanos," and I had intended to read Infinity Gauntlet after it. But a trip to the local comic book shop had me shrug and decide to buy this, since I enjoyed the book so much. Being written decades after "Rebirth of Thanos," I expected to be completely lost. But Nick Spencer cleverly makes sure that everyone knows what is going on in the current Earth-616, and this is a great place to start, if you want to get into the new Marvel comics.

When all is said and done, this was an awesome comic, and I will be sure to pick up more Ant-Man in the future.
