I really wanted to like this book and from the blurb I thought I would. I wasn't expecting it to be from such a young perspective of a pre-teen/tweenager and I wasn't particularly fond of that. I found the Yorkshire accented dialogue pulled me out of the immersion of the book and felt over the top and forced at times. Maybe if I was from Yorkshire I'd feel differently about that.
I expected this to be much more about the Yorkshire Ripper and in reality that was barely glossed over. The idea of a child trying to find the ripper is unique and intriguing but didn't hit the nail for me.
I found that I struggled somewhat to keep up with all the different characters and who was who. I didn't like a lot of the characters, especially Miv the main character, and really only liked Omar.
I also felt the ending was a bit odd and felt rushed and didn't fit the rest of the book. It was quite slow paced and I struggled to get through at times. I would likely have DNF'd if this wasn't a book I had to read for a book club. Overall not a bad book as such but definitely not one for me and I'm glad I've finished it.
