I felt kinda bimodal about this book. On one hand I love the mythology, the faerie world, the magic.
On the other hand, the writing style is challenging for me. The author uses *so* many metaphors and similes, like sometimes several in one sentence, that they stop being effective. Some descriptions of smells or feelings are really repetitive (“the smell of woodsmoke”, “hunger uncoiling”).
Really delicious story, felt like it could have used better editing.
Also I appreciated the list of content warnings the author provided, but I think what actually affected me in this book wasn’t actually in them.

Graphic: Mental illness, Gaslighting
Moderate: Violence, War
The content warnings mention inpatient hospital stay, but fail to specify that it’s an inpatient mental hospital stay, complete with the staff telling her that the whole story wasn’t actually real, she just hallucinated it which tbh for me personally was quite a bit more triggering than a physical health hospital inpatient stay for anything else.
