This was a horrifying trip of content warning after content warning. Awful, graphic homophobia, racism, abuse (child, domestic), sexual assault (of a minor in at least one case), alcoholism, victim blaming (eveb telling a woman to think about what she did to make her husband hit her to avoid a repeat), a horrible depiction of a church full of utter hate for anyone not straight, white, and male. I did not like any of the characters. Everyone had ugly secrets. I found myself having to skim a lot of pages that were too upsetting. Life is too short to read something seemingly chalked full of “triggers” for little to no reason.
