First Comes Love by Nicole French

emotional funny hopeful lighthearted mysterious tense medium-paced

2.5

I have mixed feelings about this book, it was completely different than what I was expecting (in a good way) but the romance felt really underdeveloped. I liked all the scenes when Xavier was bonding with Sophia and the little girl was so adorable but Xavier had a lot to make up for. On top of that, Francesca's behaviour was kind of annoying too. The way she delayed letting Sophia know the truth was so stupid. And her family was over the top dramatic too. I agree that Xavier deserved tough treatment but they were all so unnecessarily dramatic. Xavier needed some good character development because what he did (fucking around with Francesca while having a whole fiance which he didn't even let her know until he was leaving) was so not done. Also, I didn't like the fact that Francesca remained celibate but Xavier got to hoe around. The slight OM drama with that twat was boring too especially because he was such a creep. In conclusion, I liked the last half of the book. It was very enjoyable but there were so many parts that bugged me (especially the fact that Xavier took his sweet time until the end to realise that he loved Francesca too) and the ending was not helping too. I think I'll try to read the next book because I want to know what happens next but I hope it's better than this one.
