A Wedding in December
by Sarah Morgan
I love a Christmas story and this one didn't disappoint! Charming!
It's a story about family, how we settle into expectations of loved ones and the roles we think they should fit into. There are secrets we keep so we won't appear weak, those we keep so we won't worry loved ones, and those we keep even from ourselves. This book sensitively deals with them all, but it's still romantic, warm, and funny.
I like that it's told from different perspectives. There are mother Maggie, and daughters Rosie and Katie, all trying to understand and come to grips with Katie's impulsive decision to marry after a whirlwind romance. Meanwhile both Maggie and Rosie have secrets they've hidden from family and which color their feelings about Rosie's actions.
The Colorado setting is perfect for a Christmas story, atmospheric with snow, fireplaces, and a beautiful lodge and gave the story a magical feel in parts. Well written, sensitive, and warm, A Wedding in December makes for a wonderful escape read.
