Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng

i would recommend this book to pretty much anyone. little fires everywhere is such a realistic view on race, class, privilege, and motherhood.

it’s the clever little things- “mia” vs “mrs. richardson,” never elena. the careful use of mirabelle and may ling. the juxtapositions between the richardson and warren households. the unspoken connection between each of the richardson children and pearl/mia. how the bebe/mccullough conflict is not just a side plot, but an integral contributing part of the central themes. the relevance overall- ng just writes microaggressions and ethical dilemmas so well. some of the language used in this book reminds me of white liberal activism and empty “we see you, we hear you” mentality. and the courtroom scene- everything ed lim says

i had watched the show before i read this book, and although i really liked the show, the book is superior. there are a few plot differences and i prefer the original book plot more. and can i just say reese witherspoon was the perfect choice for elena richardson

please read this if you haven’t already!
