Well-Schooled in Murder by Elizabeth George

4.0

A dark and magnificently plotted murder mystery, three for three in this series. George secured her place at the top of the genre and elevates crime fiction to literature. Well-Schooled in Murder is another thrilling, chilling entry in the Lynley and Havers series. It is able to stand proudly on its own, while also adding layers of richness to a well-built, gripping cast of regular characters.

With Elizabeth George you can be assured of a prickly, serpentine, page-turning mystery. She dreams up progressively grizzly murder with each successive book, while Lynley, Havers, and many other from her world grow (or regress) in their own ways. The personal drama's of our "good guys" are as provocative as the twisted suspects we encounter in the novels.

I cannot recommend this novel and this series enough. These works are as good, or perhaps better than PD James and Reginald Hill, maybe surpasses even Banville's Quirke, and Martin Cruz Smith's Arkady Renko. Well-Schooled in Murder is a home-run in storytelling, writing, characterization, and atmosphere. Read this series mystery fans!!!
