The Eighth Girl by Maxine Mei-Fung Chung

2.0

“Because I can mean any of the eight personalities-nine, including me-that I’ve gathered over the years, I, the Nest Builder. But in this, I have not sight of the girl who was born and named, the one growing and learning person I know as Alexa Wu”.

The story follows Alexa Wu who suffers from DID, or split personality, whom life are being manipulated by these different personas. The most closest people to her are Ella, her best friend, and Anna, her stepmother. Whilst Ella is the most understanding and non-judgemental person, Anna, is kind, a bit creeped out by Alexa’s condition but still loves her nonetheless and helped to set her up with her therapist, which is Daniel. Ella then got a job at a high-end club that ended up being a sex-trafficking children’s place, where both Alexa and Ella begins their rescue mission.

I needed to point out that I am confused and disgust by Alexa’s therapist, at how he’s been sexualising her by having dirty thoughts and wild imaginations. When I found out the 6th, 7th and 8th personas, I am not at all surprised because I had guessed so from the beginning. Its a slow-paced story, but when I took my time to glide through, I finished it way faster than I thought I could. But some plots are gripping enough for me and made me stay. My favourite persona would be the little girl, Dolly because she is such a sweet girl that I think created by Alexa when she was younger and represent her kind, sweet, innocent and honest side.

If you are not familiar with the main character having multiple personalities, do not be afraid to pick this up because it is easy to get through and will not confuses you up and you might enjoy this more than I do.
