The League of Gentlewomen Witches

Dang that was probably the saddest fall from grace I have seen in a while. I gave the first book from this author 5 stars. Great plot, character, yearning, pacing, humor, story and world. This had....like maybe some of the humor? No character, little plot, no yearning what-so-ever, and repeated themselves like I wasn't paying attention. Did you know these two were sexing? Really? What if all of the characters from all of the novels ever written make that observation at least 40 times? Maybe you will get it then.....YEAH I GOT IT. MOVE IT ALONG.
I found myself just skimming whole chapters when the main characters were involved. Which is SUCH a bad look for a romance novel.
Like...ok they like sexing a lot. Girl, I am married I can just do that shit whenever. I am looking for romance and a fun silly time. Damn.
I also hated the main character. "Oh she is so prim and proper" ok person, I'll just take your word for it since she has done NOTHING prim or proper this entire time. Maybe take some time to introduce her and her prim and proper ways? It didn't feel solid. It didn't feel fun.
None of how the main characters feelings felt deserved and just felt cringe. Like they were falling in love with a sponge.
The only thing I feel bad about is I was enjoying the weird character of Bixby since he seemed to be the only source of humor. Also weirdly named after the Android AI? Maybe a different name would have been better. Damn this book needed an editor. But at the end of it I don't even think Bixby's dry delivery and mysterious nature was enough to keep me around.
AND ANOTHER THING
I forgot about the INSANE amount of references to Pride and Prejudice this book has for no discernible reason. There is literally nothing that resonates or has anything in common with that novel at all so I don't see the point in it. I remember a joke from MST3K that went kind of like "oh don't reference a good movie in your terrible movie." and why no one takes this advice is beyond me. I just kept thinking about how better written Pride and Prejudice was and how I wish I were reading that instead.
