Bomb: The Race to Build--And Steal--The World's Most Dangerous Weapon
by Steve Sheinkin
Well researched, well written, and reads like fiction. Even though I already knew the history behind this, the story still had me riveted to the terrible conclusion. [a:Steve Sheinkin|480253|Steve Sheinkin|http://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1311581477p2/480253.jpg] does a really fantastic job of making each character in the story come to life. I learned so much more about the building of the bomb than I ever knew and when finished wanted to learn more. There is an excellent bibliography at the end for just that. Overall, the book made me feel as if I were in the moment experiencing history as the race to build the bomb unfolded.
I will say that I started by listening to this, but had to stop and wanted to read the story for two reasons. One, there are many pictures and documents in the book that of course you can't hear, and two, the narrator was reading it like many believe non-fiction sounds like with no inflection or emotion whatsoever and I felt it was a disservice to the book.
