i feel like this was meant to be a duology, not a standalone. the world the author created was so nice, and before you could take your time understanding it, it was over. i’d have loved for it to drag a bit more, understand everything. it’s a shame, really.
such a complicated war was shoved into the last 10% of the book and it was over with. the empire was supposed to be such mighty strong enemy, and yet it fell so easily? the disgusting empress was just injured, not killed? and azarion wasn’t even the one who injured her. it was so anticlimatic. also, the reason why her village was the only one that birthed fire witches, why she could do illusions as well and why azarion was able to see through them were never explained even though they were all extremely important plot points. so weird.
it was still a solid fantasy, if you’re looking for something impactful but still not as overwhelming as a series, this is a good choice
