I had mixed feelings on this. Many of the characters felt like similar archetypes to The House in the Cerulean Sea, except I found them less interesting. I’m not sure Wallace’s redemptive arc is really earned, as I don’t think the single scene at the beginning of the book does enough to show why he’s such a jerk, nor is it ever really clear why death changes him so much when it doesn’t other characters.<\spoiler> But I enjoyed the found family relationships and the end was very moving.
Graphic: Death
Moderate: Child death, Suicide, Death of parent
