Lynne Cox is a member of the Swimming Hall of Fame and the author of Swimming to Antarctica. In 1975, when she was 17 years old, she was completing a training swim off the coast of California and
and she was about to return to shore when she realized that a baby whale was following her. Obviously the baby whale had become separated from its mother and Cox understood that if she left the ocean, the baby would probably beach itself. Cox stayed in the 55 degree ocean for 3 hours until she successfully reunited "Grayson" with its mother. A short, sweet book.
