The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson

5.0

Oh my goodness. I am not typically a high fantasy fan, so my expectations for this book weren’t super high. Everyone has been raving about Sanderson, so I thought I’d give it a try.

I have two issues that tend to occur when I read high fantasy. Either we jump into the world so fast that I’m completely lost or it’s so slowly established that I get bored & lose interest. Sanderson manages to introduce the world in pieces so I wasn’t confused, while also bringing enough action/excitement to keep me reading while characters & worlds are being established.

I felt like the character arc of Vin was so well done. Her transformation is really amazing. I’m pretty sure this book is a trilogy, so I was pleasantly surprised at how many questions were answered/resolved in first book. I’ve read too many series where the first book establishes world/characters, but the plot doesn’t progress much.

I do not flippantly give out 5 stars to books, so that tells you how much I truly enjoyed this book. I can’t wait to read the next book!
