Mostly Harmless by Douglas Adams
4.0
There's hard sci-fi with its often tedious exposition, space opera with its hand-waving magic tech, and then there's Douglas Adams merrily riffing off every idea there is with boundless energy and humour. The characters are preposterous but memorable, and the scenarios are mind-bending and ridiculous. The Guide itself plays the straight man, deadpan adding equally ridiculous ideas.
Quality and enjoyability continue to drop off a bit as the end of the 'trilogy' is reached, but there's still lots to love.
