The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides

4.0

Alicia was found standing next to her dead husband - her wrists slashed. She stopped communicating completely that night and was later placed in a psychiatric hospital because she couldn’t/wouldn’t fight in defense of herself. She is left in a drugged up state of mind and forgotten by many until criminal psychotherapist Theo shows up. There’s so many unanswered questions floating around about Alicia, like did she really kill her husband and what happened that night. Will Theo be the one who cracks Alicia’s shell and gets her to spill her guts about what really happened that night?

Fast-paced thriller that hooks you immediately. Who doesn’t love a thriller that is set in a psychiatric hospital? I didn’t see that twist coming. I had a lot of theories but none panned out.

This would have been a 5 star reading but the analogy on page 132 is totally wrong. I’m not sure if he even researched that because if he had he would have learned that that’s a myth. It’s actually a small percentage of people who were victimized in their childhood that turn into the abuser as adults. Stating that all abusers were abused as children is not a fact.

This book would make a great movie! I wish there would have been more scenes inside the hospital but that doesn’t effect my rating. It was still a good read.
