A soul for a soul?

Khaleesi and Kal Drogo but make him a demon and make it mental health conscious. Dark fantasy vibes for days. That’s the pitch.

Aheia is the light to Arioch’s dark, but she’s not all rainbows and sunshine as it might seem at first glance. Girl has some dark sh!t in her past and is trying to run far from it. Enter daddy Arioch with his demon realm and his demon friends and his soul and 0rgasm stealing tendencies. Oh, and his shadow magyck. Sold yet? If not, there’s also reluctant bonds and sxxy cruelty from demon daddy and some gratuitous violence and gore. Okay trust me, these are selling points. Ari and his Ruhi’s connection is confusing and intense and is amplified by Aheia’s mysterious…umm outbursts.

Aheia’s mental health is understandably fragile and her anxiety is constantly tested by circumstances, this is all so well written that you can feel her pain and empathize with it. This is definitely high fantasy in that the world is complex and involved and the author takes great care in introducing us to the universe and establishing the rules and cultures. This does make for a slow start as is often the case for the genre but I hope will eventually make for a richer experience. The pacing felt a little off to me but I’m attributing that to growing pains as well. I also did feel like not a lot happens in terms of plot in the book but then this is the origin story, so to speak. Arioch’s little band of demons have their own demons which makes them exponentially interesting and I would love to see so much more of them. By the time we get to the ending it all comes to a head and the cliffhanger will leave you reeling and mildly traumatized and now I need the next book please and thanks.
