The Quiet Damage: QAnon and the Destruction of the American Family by Jesselyn Cook

challenging emotional

5.0

Wow, I ate this up. It made me SO sad and upset and stressed but I could not stop listening. The structure of five different stories that were broken up over various chapters kept me engaged and really opened my eyes to the scary complexities of how moral panic can take over individuals and relationships. Where this could be sensational or indelicate, I found the writing to be humanizing and compassionate, which ultimately made it more heartbreaking 5 stars simply for the way I was engrossed, though if I were to take off any points it would be that I wish the epilogue were more fleshed out for "action steps" or ways to support people who are vulnerable to dangerous thinking and groups like this. However, I think the purpose of the book was first and foremost the compelling human story.
