This is a hard book to review. I think it was very brave of her to write about her experience and I can understand her wanting to tell her side of the story. I can understand (to a point) what happened to her and why she does what she does but there's a lot of justifying at the beginning of the book, setting it up so you won't think she's doing the wrong thing later. Clearly, people have. In my opinion though, we can never know how it felt to be in that situation and we cannot say how we would have reacted. Or condemn her for what she did or didn't choose (or wasn't able) to do. I don't understand why that has made people so angry or that they really feel like they have a right to even have an opinion about it. Anyway, I found the beginning a bit dull, learning how she never felt wanted by her parents etc. etc. and, as I said, it felt a lot like a lot of defensive setup for what happens later. She didn't need to lay it out like that. What this guy did was bad enough and the fact that she made it through, didn't let him break her and finally did have the courage to escape is incredible. Interesting read.
