The vibes and atmosphere are done so well!! The island feels perfectly eerie and magical. But the story and pacing was painful. The tension and mystique around our main leads was perfect and matched what I expected from the synopsis, but soon after that the rest of the set up just dragged on for almost half the book. I found myself wanting to scream because they all kept referring to the "incident" and I just wanted to know already WHAT even happened. But the second half of the book was much more enjoyable as we finally started being fed scraps of what happened and watched it all piece together. A tiny bit of an anticlimactic ending but overall a really fun story! Perfect little dark magical realism for the fall time.
🌶️/5 barely spicy.
