Wizard's First Rule
by Terry Goodkind
It took a few chapters before I was completely engrossed in this book, but once I was hooked, there was no turning away. Richard is quite a character, one I have never experienced before. I suppose that is appropriate, since all through the book people kept telling him he was one of a kind. He is a simple man, with simple dreams, a simple home, a quiet life. All of that changes, however, with the murder of his father, which has taken place before the story begins. It is when he rescues a stranger from another land, that his true adventure begins. All of a sudden, he is swept up into magic and mystery, a journey to save his people and the people beyond the magical borders that have separated their kingdoms for many years. A dark ruler is seeking out the three Boxes of Orden, and once he has them all he could end up having so much power that no one would ever be able to bring him down. It is up to Richard and his friends to stop Darken Rahl before its too late. I was on the edge of my seat throughout most of this book, and I cannot wait to delve into the next one. Thanks, Mom, for introducing me to this exciting series.
