There was so much about this that I loved. Asher was the perfect MMC for me, he had the charm and the wit but was sensitive and romantic and i just fell in love with him. Scarlett was also a great FMC and she had a great balance of being vulnerable but having the strength to not lose herself no matter how in love she was. I think the relationship between Asher and Scarlett was great as they did have the physical attraction but there was a lot of emotional moments where they connected. The way the relationship developed worked well, and though as I was reading I questioned if the third act breakup was needed as I was questioning whether the book needed to be as long as it was. However, the way the breakup affected the characters and gave them, especially Asher, time to grow and develop made the breakup worth it. My issue came with the backdrop of the story. Being from London meant that certain aspects, such as the street racing, made it feel sometimes a bit too far fetched, and the use of ‘wanker’ as the only real insult started to make the characters feel like caricatures of Londoners and it was clear it was written by someone not from London or even England. The main thing that took me out of the story was the football. I love football, so in the couple of football match chapters we had, the mention of time count downs felt like an inaccuracy that bugged me. Also, having two made up teams dominate over the real top flight clubs was something that just didn’t click with me. I truly believe that if I didn’t love football, this could have been more of a 4.5 star, even with the London aspects, but I was taken out of the story a bit. I will continue with the series as I do like Ana Huang’s style, even if the football and London aspects aren’t really right, I will just try not to be as fussy with the next book.
Moderate: Car accident
Minor: Death
The car accident is off page and happened 5 years before book is set, however it is mentioned multiple times and our FMC suffers from chronic pain due to the accident. Death due to mugging is mentioned, again it happened years before the book is set.
