Bad Feminist
by Roxane Gay
This collection of essays is powerful, humorous, insightful, heartbreaking and wise in equal measure. I will have to buy a copy because Roxane Gay's writing is worth many re-reads and perfect for inspiring honest, raw essays of my own on pop culture, race, gender, women, feminism...all the things, really. What she had to say about rape culture and women - especially about feeling guilty for watching "Law and Order: SVU" - tapped into my own thoughts on the subject (and the reason why I stopped watching). This happened over and over again: I felt as if she was reading my mind. I had been fangirling on her hard before this, because she is incisive and witty on Twitter and in other essays I've read of hers, but Bad Feminist sealed the deal: I want to hang out with Roxane Gay.
