Every story MacLean creates becomes better than the last. She creates an uncompromising need in her characters, and a fully flawed human nature, that drives them toward their doom and deliverance in equal measure. I love watching the ways she manipulates their personalities and flips the script on them so seamlessly that the readers as just as surprised as the characters.
