Just a gripping character study. And not even a singular character but the relationships around her. I was going to rate it either a 3.5-4 before the third part but that last part is particularly brutual and simultaneously stunningly beautiful.
Graphic: Domestic abuse, Eating disorder, Mental illness, Rape, Self harm, Sexual assault, Sexual content
Moderate: Child abuse, Misogyny, Suicidal thoughts, Toxic relationship, Forced institutionalization, Medical content, Medical trauma, Suicide attempt
Minor: Vomit
For anyone sensitive about rape the "main character" or focal character of the book is assaulted twice. Once in the first part of the book, her husband describes raping her and it's only a brief paragraph. Secondly at the end of the second part, the brother in law has sex with her and it is not completely understood how consensual it was as she is described to be pushing him away and saying no at some parts. If you are very sensitive to scenes of rape, you should prepare yourself mentally beforehand
