The writing is good and the plot twisty and creepy. It could have been 5 stars except for one completely preposterous twist/plot device…

I simply can’t get past the idea that Verity would be faking her comatose state. She allegedly fools not just her husband and nurse caretakers, but the doctors and nurses in the hospital. Really? No tests of reflexes, pain response, brain function? She can stare into space without showing any sign? While people bathe her, change her diapers, feed her? I just couldn’t buy it. And that kind of ruined the whole thing for me, because so much of the ending hung on it.
