idk how this managed to be so much better than the first one. however, this book is just… pain. god. freaking pain. i usually steer clear of stories with internalized homophobia, *TW self-harm and suicidal ideation, and so much toxicity. i found myself saying a lot “this guy is severely depressed.” i prefer stories that don’t deal with that stuff because i prefer stories that don’t rely on those topics to drive a story since it tends to be overused. and maybe this book is just one of those stories. but somehow this story managed to convey it carefully and thoughtfully. i felt so many things for the MC, anger, frustration, sympathy, relief, and the fact that i could get so highly attached to this character proves how much the story affected me and how good of a job the author did writing it.
i do hope he goes to therapy tho.
