Monsters in Love, Vol. 4: Lost in the Deeps by Evangeline Priest, Evangeline Priest, Clio Evans, Vivienne Hart

4.0

The Monsters in Love anthologies are always winners for me: they bring together some of the best authors writing monster romance today to share spicy little nuggets that often get spun out into full-length stories. And I do love a good theme, so I was especially excited for "Lost in the Deep", full of sea monsters, merfolk, and tentacle daddies.

Speaking of tentacle daddies....

Jillian Graves, author of wonderful smut for people whose coming-of-age fantasies all involved Goliath from Gargoyles, gave me an ARC of her contribution to this anthology, Daddy of the Sea.

The story is exactly as tongue-in-cheek as the title suggests it would be, but the feelings are surprisingly earnest.

Fresh out of a bad relationship, Carina's self esteem is in the gutter. Luckily, her friendly neighborhood tentacle monster Kalder is there to cheer her up, and since her douchebag ex threw all of her spicy books into the ocean, he knows exactly how to do it.

Given the format, it's no surprise that these stories tend to be more smut than substance but, as always, Graves' story manages a balance of both. She has suggested that we'll see more of these characters in the future, and I'm looking forward to it.
