If You Were Mine by Melanie Harlow

5.0

Melanie Harlow always seems to hook me in and take me to her world when I am listening to one of her books. This one is no exception. Meeting Claire and Theo and running the pace through their budding relationship is fun and exciting. These two come from such completely different worlds, it is hard to believe they could find a common ground to build on. But when Claire hires Theo to be her date for a wedding, it doesn't take long for the sparks to fly and their time to begin. The two have a lot of self doubt which will plague their lives, having to get out of their own way and see themselves in a better light is all part of the journey this story will take you on. I really enjoyed the relationship between Theo and his older brother, how life had changed and the advice Theo is given to help him through. It is refreshing to see the struggles he goes through, that it's not glossed over to get to the happily ever after without creating incredible angst through the story. I also loved the way Claire and Theo would work together on her house. So loving and thoughtful, the two would work and create a home. Harlow really relates to real life and compassion, creating a story worth the listen.

I loved the narration by Renee Givens and Rob Howard. Their voices are perfect age sounding for this story. I could picture Theo through Rob's performance, with all the emotions and false bravado he had. Renee gives Claire that slight self doubt along with a huge heart through her voice making you root for her happily ever after.
