An Unkindness of Ghosts by Rivers Solomon
4.0
I seem to remember this making a big splash in my reading circles when it came out, but not being able to gather the fortitude to read it. Though containing lots of themes I'm into (gender, race, generation starship), it was clearly going to be brutal.
And it was! But of course it's not just grim. It's also deeply sociological and of course that's my jam. It's hopeful in the way Octavia Butler is hopeful. The ending is abrupt and horribly sad but also full of possibility.
