Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella

2.0

I get it, the main character was purposely written as this exasperatedly immature person in order to reflect her mental instability and addiction, but honestly, I have never found any character as annoying as Rebecca.

She comes out as a spoiled, whiny and persistently rude to everyone she ever meets, to the point that I struggle to even find a minimum of sympathy as we go through her hardships. Ones, that I shall add, are nothing but a consequence of her own behaviour.

I read the book because I genuinely liked the movie, expecting some additional details or more exciting plot differences, only to find myself into what I can easily describe to be one of the most dislikable main characters ever.

The other characters hardly save themselves.

The only reason I am giving it three stars, is because I suppose the author did accomplish exactly what she wanted to with the story. The writing was good enough for me to not complain any further about it, but the truth is: I did not enjoy it.

Not as much as I wish I did. I read it all while feeling like dying inside and I am not exactly sure that to be what I want to feel while reading a book. Probably would have liked it better if I had been a tad bit younger and less anxious.
