Dreaming of You by Lisa Kleypas
4.0

The dirtiest, grittiest historical romance I've ever read. Reading this made me flinched and disgusted at many things, feeling unclean and all fired up at the same time. I didn't fall for either of the heroine or the hero, but gosh, it's One. Good. Romance. to read. This book makes Devil in Winter, which also happened inside a gambling club, some 20 years into the future, very tame and cozy in comparison.
I've read a few rake and rogue Regency romances, and never in any of them readers have to confront themselves with the scoundrel's dirty past like in this book. Dreaming of You started ugly, and stayed ugly. My heart breaks to read about what Craven had done to pull himself out of the gutters into richness, but my morality is disgusted at his sexual conquests, and I don't know what to feel seeing him paid so dearly for that, which made the happy ending all the more heart wrenching.
