The Light We Carry: Overcoming in Uncertain Times by Michelle Obama

hopeful inspiring reflective medium-paced

"What Carissa came to see was that she'd hidden herself behind a facade, pretending that she wasn't yearning for more or better, all the while thinking that the mere passage of time somehow counted as progress in the relationship."
------------------------------
I found this to be a particularly hopeful, optimistic view of how we can become more whole individually, thus leading to societal healing and wellness. Obama didn't tiptoe around some of the more inflammatory political topics. Rather, she chose to state her own thoughts and opinions clearly and unequivocally.

Throughout, she made the exhortation that the reader should allow themselves to receive love and have intimacy in their close friendships and other relationships. Her message is that living inauthentically, afraid, or alone is one of the greatest unkindnesses we can visit upon ourselves.

I wouldn't say any topics/takes were novel, but this was cohesive, flowed well, and kept me reading. I think there were some useful ideas here. Focusing on movement, joy, and trying to leave room for everyone to grow into kinder humans isn't a bad message to spread to the world.
