A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness

5.0

"Your mind will believe comforting lies while also knowing the painful truths that make those lies necessary. And your mind will punish you for believing both."

I finished this book in under two hours and my heart is breaking and my mind is reeling. A Monster Calls is truly a work of art.

It's about grief and loss and coming to terms with it all but more importantly it's about forgiveness.

Patrick Ness (credit to Siobhan Dowd) handles the themes beautifully. Connor's anger and his sadness and his all consuming loneliness is palpable. You can't help but ache for him.

Truly, I think it's one of those books that will stick with you forever.
