Free Fall by David Wiesner

4.0

I would say that this is 5 stars but would prefer to say that Wiesner is still finding his feet here and although the vision of the boy's dream is utterly beguiling, I wanted there to be a clearer story thread weaving through. Having watched Wiesner say that the dream is continuous and that should you cut out all the images and place them next to each other, side by side, that they would fit perfectly, I must say that it made me enjoy the book even more as he's clearly enjoying playing with the format and codes.
There is so much to see here and discuss and because, as with much of Wiesner, there is a real sense of ambiguity, then there is a limitlessness to interpretation too. I like the idea of children attempting the same approach and designing their own dream book.
