In the Dream House by Carmen Maria Machado

5.0

This was an exquisitely written book about domestic abuse within a queer relationship. It offers queer theory, history and memoir all in one package. The content itself is difficult but necessary to read, particularly as it highlights intimate partner violence in a queer context - one that is too often ignored - from the lived experience of a woman of color - also, much too often ignored. The text itself is an intimate and vulnerable exploration of genre and motif. Highly recommended for anyone interested in queer literature and subversive storytelling.
