The Inn Between by Marina Cohen

3.0

This is definitely a creepy middle grade book, yet it includes almost no blood or violence. Throughout this story, Quinn and Kara are trying to figure out the meaning of the mysterious events occurring during their stay at the Inn Between. I had an idea of what had happened pretty early in the story, but the flashbacks and the uncertainty of the reality of what Quinn sees make it difficult to work out the details. It also took me most of the book to realize the allusions to Greek mythology which add an interesting layer to the story. In the end, the combination of Quinn's missing sister and the events surrounding Quinn and Kara's stay at the Inn make for not only a creepy mystery, but also a truly sad story about family, friendship, and forgiveness.
